Alcatel-Lucent Stiftung für Kommunikationsforschung
Since its establishment in 1979 the scientific Alcatel-Lucent Stiftung for Communications research has
fostered academic research contributing to an improvement of the
Man-Technology interaction in communication systems. In this field, a
variety of issues remains to be solved by various scientific
disciplines, since only through the interaction of technical sciences,
natural sciences, social sciences, and the humanities can a humane
technology become a reality on the way to the information society.
Being
a scientific entity legally as a part of "Stifterverband für die
Deutsche Wissenschaft" (Donors' Association for the Promotion of
Sciences and Humanities in Germany), Alcatel-Lucent Stiftung supports
German academic research in the field of communications. One of the
main tasks of the Stiftung is also to promote the dialogue between
science, government and business. Due to this particular role,
Alcatel-Lucent Stiftung covers relevant issues at a very early stage,
presenting them to stakeholders in science and practice through expert
talks and conferences. In order to honour outstanding scientific work,
the Research Award for Technical Communication (Forschungspreis) is
annually allocated by the Alcatel-Lucent Stiftung. To another highlight
belongs the infosociety yearbook which brings annually together the contributions by leading German and International experts.
The
key issue for Alcatel-Lucent Stiftung is Information Society - ranging
from Man-Technology Interaction to Electronic Government. At present,
the activities of the Alcatel-Lucent Stiftung are focused on the
following fields:
- Man-Technology interaction; Technology Assessment, Philosophy and Governance
- New Mobile and Broadband Media, Content, Services, Technologies, Markets
- E-Government (including E-Health, E-Democracy, Safer Communication)
- ICT Rights and ICT-Security
- Communications and Mobility; Telematics
Numerous
conferences, workshops, seminars and publications dedicated to these
issues are organized via Academic Competence Centres (Hochschulkolleg)
and project groups established within the Alcatel-Lucent Stiftung.
Stiftungs-Verbundkolleg Information Society
The
Stiftungs-Verbundkolleg (Joint Competence Center) of the Berlin universities was set up in 2001
and promotes science and research in the field of information society,
giving incentives for a dialogue between theory and practice in this
interdisciplinary and cross-academic framework. Big conferences and
symposia as well as the Yearbook Information Society contribute to the
programmatic discussions in academia and society.
The E-Government Study Center was established in 2001 to promote this important topic for modern administrations and applied sciences on the way to Information Society. In close cooperation with the main actors from the region as well as national experts various topics from the field of E-Government are worked on interdisciplinary lectures, workshops and seminars where leading scientists and practitioners take an active part giving impulses for the discourse in German and European society. Conferences for Eastern Europe have been organized in Bratislava, Warsaw and St. Petersburg. The European information interchange on E-Government found its branding with the conference series of "One-Stop-Europe".
Hochschulkolleg Human-Technology Interaction
This
first interdisciplinary Hochschulkolleg was established in 1986. The
initiative "for the promotion of research and teaching of theory and
practice of communications" was set up together with the University of
Stuttgart. Incentives for intensified research, teaching and knowledge
transfer between the different disciplines with the help of visiting
scientists, symposiums and courses are aimed to develop a
human-oriented technology. Having as the focus field Man-Technology
Interaction in communication systems, this cooperation includes also
fellowships at International Centre for Cultural and Technological
Studies at the University of Stuttgart (IZKT).
Hochschulkolleg Communication and Mobility
Since
1994 the Alcatel-Lucent Stiftung has supported the Hochschulkolleg for
interdisciplinary research in the field of transport at Dresden
University of Technology. The main aim is to promote the study of
current and future problems of transport and mobility, focusing
especially on the international aspects in today's closely connected
Europe. In 2006 big conferences and publications were dedicated to
"Towards a New German Mobility Policy".From 2009 on the topic "Communications and Mobility" continues as a major project with conferences.
